The Celtics have a formidable Big 3 with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker, who arrived to Boston in free agency this season. Walker averaged 20.4 points and 4.8 assists in 31.1 minutes over 56 games in his first year with the team.
Kemba Walker wore No. 15 with the Charlotte Hornets but now he’s wearing No. 8 with the Boston Celtics. A Walker with No. 8 in Boston? We have seen this before!
Celtics legend Antoine Walker wore No. 8. Walker averaged 20.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 39.2 minutes over 552 games in eight years with the Celtics. He recently appeared on the Heavy Live with Scoop B Show and shared that Kemba Walker asked him for permission to wear his jersey. “We ended up communicating through social media,” Walker told Heavy.com’s Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson.
“And he asked for my blessing to be able to wear number No. 8 and I was like: ‘Man, how could you turn a guy you know; All-Star and a guy that was actually nice enough to even include me in the thought process of wearing a jersey?’ So I was excited that he wore it.”
Antoine is glad that Kemba gave Celtics fans a chance to see a No. 8 named Walker again.
“You can say what you want in the media, but that’s a REAL Antoine Walker jersey. But I want to give Kemba a lot of respect because he didn’t have to do that at all. Like I said, we didn’t have a prior relationship, but for him to reach out to me made me feel special.”
