His career has gone in the wrong direction: Bill Simmons on Anthony Davis

NBA analyst Bill Simmons reckons LA Lakers’ talisman Anthony Davis’ career has gone in the wrong direction. Davis had always shown the skills to go a long way in his career but he hasn’t been at his absolute best as his career has been hampered by a plethora of injuries in the recent past.

Davis missed the majority of the previous season due to Achilles Tendon injury. However, the LA Lakers linchpin hasn’t been at his lethal best in the ongoing season of the NBA. LA Lakers are placed in seventh place in the Western Conference standings with a 16-18 win-loss record and Anthony Davis’ poor form hasn’t helped his team.

Simmons noted that the players should be peaking in their late 20s but Davis graph is going down as his attempts in assists, rebounds, and points are not up to the mark. Davis’ performance has been below-average and he will definitely need to turn the tables in the rest of the season.

Simmons said while speaking on Undisputed, “His career has gone in the wrong direction. If your free throw attempts are going down, your rebounds are going down, your field goal percentage is going down. Your points have gone down and you’re in your late 20s. That doesn’t make sense. You should be peaking in your late 20s. And you look at players like Garnett you look at the consistency, Duncan had the consistency. They never were going down. And I think with AD, the stats really makes me nervous.”

Furthermore, Simmons questioned Davis’ consistency for the Lakers. This is Davis’ third year for the LA Lakers but he hasn’t yet proved his mettle apart from his opening edition. Davis has an average of 23.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, and completed 2.9 assists per game in the 27 matches he has played in the ongoing season.

There is no doubt that Davis is a pivotal cog in LA Laker’s wheel and he will need to support players like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Russell Westbrook if the Lakers are to turn the tables in what has been a disappointing season for them.

Lakers have lost their last five matches and they will next face Houston Rockets on Tuesday.
