I am not retiring – Chris Paul after Phoenix Suns’ season ends

Phoenix Suns point guard Chris Paul clarified that he isn’t retiring and he will look to bounce back stronger in the next season after his team’s 2021-22 campaign was ended on Sunday. The Suns suffered a big loss of 123-90 in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Dallas Mavericks as they were completely dominated by the opposition.

Paul is currently 37-years-old but feels there is still some fuel left in his tank. In fact, the Suns had a 2-0 advantage but they could not bring their best in the final game of the series. It was one-way traffic as Luka Doncic and Co. thoroughly dominated them throughout the game.

“You play long enough and you don’t win, every time you lose, they’re going to say it was your best chance,” said Paul. “But I think for me, us, it’s we’ll be right back next year. I’ll tell you that much. “I’m not retiring tomorrow, thank God. Hopefully, I’m healthy coming back. But I’m [going to] keep playing.”

Meanwhile, the veteran didn’t have the best of days at work in Game 7 as he could only manage 10 points and four assists for the Suns on Sunday night. Paul took the responsibility for the big loss on his shoulders.

“I think we just came out and just didn’t have enough,” said Paul. “I think Mont said that’s on him, but I think that’s on me, as the point guard, the leader of the team. To come out and make sure you’re getting the right shots and all that.”

In fact, the Suns could only manage 27 points in the first half and Luka Doncic also scored the same number of points himself in the first 24 minutes of the game. Doncic went on to score 35 points for the Mavs.

“They did a good job of getting the ball out of my hands and trapping every action I was in,” Devon Booker said.

The Western Conference finals will be played between Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks. The first game of the series will be played on Wednesday night.
