The Dallas Mavericks have been in great form this season with their talisman Luka Doncic leading them to yet another playoffs. But Nick Wright feels that Luka Doncic may set new standards this season and carry the Mavericks deep into the postseason.
Wright shared his thoughts on Luka Doncic and the Mavericks on his podcast “What’s Wright’ on Thursday where he praised the sensational performances of the Slovenian. Although he rates the Dallas Mavericks very highly he feels that they are not going to win the NBA Championship just yet.
Wright even compared Luka to LeBron James and said that the Slovenian is the 22-year-old version of the Akron Hammer. Wright said, “I think this is the Dallas Mavericks’ year, not to win the title, but to get to the finals. I think Luka, who is the closest we’ve seen to LeBron (James) in NBA history or at least since LeBron, Luka is going to have his version of 22-year-old LeBron, ’07, carrying a very weak Cavs team all the way to the NBA Finals, where they then got washed by Spurs.”
He kept on adding how Doncic has been sensational this season and how he can carry the Mavericks forward. He even made a bold claim of Doncic helping the Dallas Mavericks to reach the NBA finals where according to him they will go down fighting against the Milwaukee Bucks.
“I think Luka can carry the Mavs to the NBA Finals, where they then will get washed by Bucks,” Wright added.
The Dallas Mavericks are in decent form this season in the Western Conference as they are placed in the fifth position with a record of 45-28. So they do have the potential and the players to go deep into the postseason.
Doncic has been their star for some years now and he has continued that form to this season. He is averaging 27.9 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game. Therefore Wright believes that Doncic has enough quality and charisma to carry his team to the finals.
He compared the Slovenian with LeBron James because a 22-year-old LeBron carried the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA Finals. Although they got swept by the San Antonio Spurs the effort was really commendable.
