Golden State Warriors could receive a major blow as Steph Curry suffered a left knee injury during the match against Dallas Mavericks, which they won by 119-113 on Saturday night. Curry suffered the injury in the third quarter with 2:01 remaining on the clock.
The incident happened when Curry was defending against Dallas’ McKinley Wright IV and his knee collided with the opposition player’s knee. The team has announced that Curry’s X-ray has come out negative and the extent of the injury will be known after MRI.
GSW called a timeout after Curry suffered the injury but he could not resume the game. Curry finished his night with 21 points in 7-of-11 shooting and seven assists.
“Any time a guy gets an MRI, there’s a concern level,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “We’ll just have to wait and see the results. … This has happened many, many times over the years. So fingers crossed he’s OK.”
Earlier in the season, the talisman had to miss 11 games for the Dubs due to a left shoulder injury. Kerr added they will have to move forward irrespective of Curry’s fitness.
“If he’s out, then we move forward and we do have some games to look at, some game film to look at,” Kerr said. “We’ll be ready, regardless.”
Kerr admitted they didn’t close the game out as they lost the fourth quarter by 27-17.
“I didn’t think we closed the game well at all,” Kerr said.
The team’s defender Draymond Green felt the team was not 100% focused in the crunch situation of the game.
“When we get down the stretch, we stop doing the things that work,” Green said. “When the game is going down the stretch, it’s hard for Steve to get a call in every time, you’re under pressure, it’s intense, you’re in the game, you’re not really focused on what’s coming from the sidelines. We’ve got to do a better job closing down the stretch.”
Golden State Warriors will next face Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night.
