Tyronn Lue Reportedly Finalizing 5-Year Contract with Clippers as New Head Coach

Los Angeles Clippers are said to be putting together the deal’s final details to make Tyronn Lue as the franchise’s head coach.

Lue is the Clippers Lead Assistant Coach, but a 5-year deal can return him as an NBA head coach once again if successful.

With the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, Lue won the 2016 NBA Championship; he will be lead assisted by Chauncey Billups at the Clippers.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski made the revelations on Thursday, although he had reported on Tuesday that Lue met with the Management and owners of Houston Rockets and, as such, was close to joining the Rockets despite the fact he was being considered for the Head coach position at the Clippers.

Lue will be replacing Doc Rivers, who left the position months ago, but he has been linked with other jobs, including New Orleans Pelicans and Philadelphia 76ers.

Lue will bring in experience to the team and help rebuild after a poor second round exit by the LA Clippers in the second round of the playoffs, where they let go of a 3-1 lead against the Miami Heat.

Meanwhile, According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey will step down from the position.

Woj made the revelation on Thursday that Morey and Rockets governor Tilman Fertitta reached an agreement for a mutual exit for the former.

Subsequently, Rafael Stone, the Executive Vice President of basketball operations, will be promoted to the General Manager role.

The Houston lost in the Western Conference semifinals to the Champions Los Angeles Lakers. It is the second year consecutively that they have failed to get to the Western Conference or NBA Final.

Coach Mike D’Antoni left the team afterward although he would have been out of contract at the end of the season.
