We probably relaxed a bit more than we should have – Klay Thompson after loss against Phoenix Suns

With Steph Curry and Andrew Wiggins back in the starting XI for the Golden State Warriors, there were high expectations from the team. However, they went on to lose by 125-113 against a struggling Phoenix Suns outfit on Tuesday night.

Klay Thompson admitted the team was complacent and they had to pay the price. Curry scored 24 points for the Dubs after making his return from a left shoulder injury but his efforts went in vain as the team was not up to the mark.

“I think with Steph and [Andrew Wiggins] back, we probably relaxed a bit more than we should have,” Golden State guard Klay Thompson said. “We thought with them showing up, we’d just get the dub.”

Curry played for 31 minutes but feels there was pressure as they were playing catch-up in the fourth quarter.

“It’s hit or miss with how much rust you will have and how close you can get to the speed of the game,” Curry said. “The first quarter, it felt good just to be out there, running with our guys. … I felt like I got stronger as the game went on. … In the fourth, the intensity of the game picked up. We were playing very desperately trying to come back and make some plays. I felt like myself again.”

Out of the 24 points Curry scored, 16 came in the final quarter of play. The talisman shot 8-of-22 from the floor, including 5-of-15 from 3, in 31 minutes overall.

GSW took the fourth quarter by 35-27 but the team’s head coach Steve Kerr wants his players to come up with better performances in the first quarter, in which they trailed by 31-26 and then lost the second quarter by 28-19 – to trail by a total of 14 points at the half-way stage.

“I’m hoping that fourth quarter was the team that I have come to know and love and recognize,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “But we have to show in the first quarter, not in the fourth quarter.”

This was the Dubs’ third loss on the bounce and they will look to get back to winning ways as they next face Sacramento Kings on Friday night.
