Daniel Dubois and Frank Sanchez are set to face each other in an IBF title eliminator.
This fight marks a critical juncture for both heavyweights, each aiming to secure a path back to world championship contention.
The IBF officially confirmed the bout after both fighters agreed to the contest, with a 15-day window to negotiate the final terms.
28-year-old Dubois enters this fight after a recent knockout loss to Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed title battle at Wembley Stadium. This marked Dubois’ second stoppage defeat against Usyk, who reclaimed the IBF belt after vacating it in 2024.
Dubois had initially inherited the IBF title when Usyk relinquished it and notably defended it against Anthony Joshua last year with a fifth-round knockout.
However, the summer defeat to Usyk meant Dubois must rebuild his position to earn another shot at the undisputed crown.
In contrast, Sanchez, a 33-year-old Cuban fighter, is riding an upward trajectory after a recent knockout win in February against Ramon Olivas Echeverria.
This victory came after Sanchez endured his only professional defeat, a stoppage by Agit Kabayel in May 2024.
Sanchez stands at number four in the IBF rankings and avoided exposure for some time as other contenders declined the opportunity to face him, including Moses Itauma, Richard Torrez Jr., and Efe Ajagba.
Dubois’ acceptance of this risky fight is a sign of his readiness to compete with top opposition to secure a lucrative showdown.
This IBF final eliminator serves as the gateway for the winner to challenge Ukrainian Usyk again, which could be a trilogy meeting for Dubois.
The British boxer sees this fight as his best route to a third massive payday, making the gamble worth it. Sanchez, by taking this fight, aims to improve his resume and continue his rise within the division.
With both fighters aiming to reposition themselves on the big stage, the bout promises high stakes beyond just the IBF belt.
The winner will not only gain mandatory challenger status to Usyk but also improve their ranking in the heavyweight division.
