Warren: Joshua vs Fury could happen in America

English boxing promoter Frank Warren believes Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are likely to meet in the United States, despite continued uncertainty over where the long-awaited heavyweight fight will take place.

Fury’s promoter told Sky Sports News that he expects the bout to happen in early November and believes the financial prospects of staging the fight in America could ultimately decide the venue. 

Saudi boxing organizer Turki Alalshikh is expected to confirm the details once the remaining issues are resolved.

The fight had been expected to take place at Wembley Stadium, which would have given Joshua and Fury the chance to meet in front of a home crowd. 

That plan has become less certain, with reports of a preferred venue in the United States because of the larger commercial opportunities available there.

In his words: “I think because of the amount of money involved, I hope I’m wrong, but I think it will go on in America,” Warren said.

The promoter added that both Joshua and Fury would prefer to fight at Wembley, but the financial side of the event could prove decisive. 

Fury is already in Miami preparing for the contest, further adding to speculation that the fight could take place in the US.

Madison Square Garden in New York has been mentioned as a possible venue, although no location or date has been officially confirmed. 

November remains the expected timeframe, with the two camps still needing to resolve contractual issues before the fight can be formally announced.

One of the main obstacles concerns Joshua’s agreement with Matchroom. Eddie Hearn has previously indicated that Joshua’s contract requires the fight to take place in the UK, meaning a move to America could require changes to the existing terms.

The uncertainty has also led to a public back-and-forth between the two camps. Fury recently suggested that the fight could collapse after accusing Joshua’s side of asking for more money. 

Warren, however, remains confident that the outstanding issues can be resolved and that the fight is still on course.
