AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan out for 10 weeks

Mike Maignan is expected to be out of action until the end of 2021 after he had undergone surgery.

Maignan signed for Milan from Lille in the last summer transfer window and made the fans forget about losing Gianluigi Donnarumma with his exceptional performances between the sticks.

However, the club will be without the French goalkeeper for quite a while. AC Milan will have to rely on Ciprian Tătăruşanu and new signing Antonio Mirante for their next Serie A and Champions League games
The club put out a statement on their official website, which read:

“Milan can confirm that Mike Maignan underwent an arthroscopic exam on Thursday that identified an injury to a ligament in his left wrist, which was repaired. A percutaneous pedicle screw was also fixed to the scaphoid bone in his wrist due to a vascular problem.”

“The operation was carried out at the La Madonnina clinic by Dr. Loris Pegoli in the presence of Milan’s Club Doctor Stefano Mazzoni, and it was a success. He will rest for six weeks before beginning the recovery process. Maignan is expected to be out for about ten weeks.”

Maignan initially got injured during the game against Liverpool but held on regarding the surgery till yesterday. He was called up for the recent international break and was with France. He won the Nations League along with his Milan teammate Theo Hernández.

Following the injury to Mike Maignan, AC Milan has signed Antonio Mirante as a free agent until the end of the season.

The signing of Antonio Mirante was crucial because of the injuries of Mike Maignan and Alessandro Plizzari. Third-choice goalkeeper, Alessandro Plizzari is out until the end of the year as well, thus Milan had to shop on the market and sign another goalie.

Antonio Mirante is an experienced goalkeeper. The 38-year-old has played for Crotone, Siena, Juventus, Sampdoria, Parma, Bologna, and Roma. The club stated that he has chosen to wear number 83 for the Rossoneri.

AC Milan’s next fixture is at home to Verona, before traveling to face FC Porto in an important UEFA Champions League game.
