Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard keen to sign new players as Danny Ings is all set to move out this summer

Aston Villa have done reasonably well this season under Steven Gerrard’s leadership. The Villains are currently in 12th position in the Premier League standings and have made some great progress from last season.

But Gerard has aims of taking the club even higher as he plans to rebuild it in the coming years. However, before that transfer expert, Dean Jones believes that Aston Villa forward Danny Ings will probably leave the club this summer. Ings who joined Aston Villa last summer from Southampton may be on his way out after a year.

Ings arrived at Aston Villa with great expectations but has failed to replicate that into performances. The former Southampton man has only managed to net five goals in 25 appearances this season and also has five assists to add to his credit in all competitions.

Ings’ failure to hit goals consistently has seen him go down the pecking order as Gerrard has picked Ollie Watkins to replace him in the starting lineup. Recently Ings came back to the starting eleven against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend. Ings missed a lot of chances as the Villains suffered a thumping 4-0 defeat.

There are rumours that Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in the Englishman. But it remains to be seen whether it works out for Aston Villa or not.

Steven Gerrard has always said that he would like to improve the quality of the team. He shared how he would like to bring in new players this summer.

But recently he was not very happy with the 4-0 defeat against Spurs. He shared at the press conference how his team are still a work in progress and needs to do a lot of work especially in defence.

“We are certainly a work in progress. We have tonnes of work to do, you can see in the second half that defensively we have tonnes of work to do and there is certainly a gap between the sides above us right now,” Gerrard highlighted.

Gerrard has clearly stated that he would like to bring in new players and how recruitment is key at Aston Villa this summer. He also has a clear stance on signing loanee Philippe Coutinho permanently. They also need a defensive midfielder and England international Kalvin Philipps is one of their top priorities this summer.
