Aston Villa stormed into the Europa League semi-finals with a commanding 4-0 victory over Bologna, sealing an emphatic 7-1 aggregate win in their quarter-final tie.
The dominant performance underlined Villa’s growing confidence on the European stage as they brushed aside their Italian opponents with ease at a packed Villa Park.
From the outset, Villa imposed themselves on the game, controlling possession and dictating the tempo with sharp, attacking football.
Their early intent paid off as Ollie Watkins opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute, setting the tone for a one-sided encounter.
The striker’s movement and clinical finishing caused constant problems for Bologna’s defence.
Villa’s attacking depth was on full display as Emiliano Buendía doubled the lead ten minutes later after finishing off a slick team move that carved open the visitors.
Bologna struggled to cope with Villa’s fluid attacking play, with the midfield dictating proceedings and ensuring the pressure rarely relented.
The home side continued to push forward before the break, and their dominance was rewarded again when Morgan Rogers added a third goal six minutes before half-time.
By this point, the tie was effectively over, with Bologna offering little in response as Villa’s defence remained resolute and well-organised.
The scoring was completed late on by defender Ezri Konsa, who produced an impressive striker-like finish from a corner to make it 4-0 on the night.
The goal capped off a polished team performance and highlighted Villa’s threat from set-pieces as well as open play.
Under the guidance of manager Unai Emery, Villa now march into the semi-finals as one of the competition’s most in-form sides.
With momentum firmly on their side, they will be confident of going even further as they continue their pursuit of European silverware.
They will face fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest in the semifinals after they defeated Porto 2-1 on aggregate.
