Atletico Madrid striker clarifies transfer rumour

Julian Alvarez has reportedly clarified his stance on a potential return to the Premier League amid strong interest from Arsenal.

The north London club are assembling a squad capable of competing on all fronts and are already planning for the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta’s side pushes for silverware.

Despite speculation linking the former Manchester City forward with a move back to England, the 26-year-old is said to favour staying in Spain for now.

Arsenal are believed to be among several Premier League clubs monitoring the situation, alongside Chelsea and Manchester United, with Alvarez reportedly valued at around £87 million.

However, reports in Spain suggest the Argentina international would prioritise a move to Barcelona should he leave Atletico Madrid.

The striker joined the Spanish side after leaving Manchester City and remains under contract until 2030.

Alvarez would prefer to remain in La Liga rather than return to the United Kingdom. While that may represent a setback for Arsenal, Barcelona’s well-documented financial constraints could complicate any potential deal.

Atletico, meanwhile, are understood to be keen to safeguard their prized asset by offering improved terms in a bid to fend off suitors.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has publicly dismissed talk of a transfer, insisting no formal approach has been made.

Cerezo stressed that Alvarez is happy in Madrid and remains under contract, adding that no official contact has been received from Barcelona.

His comments underline the club’s determination to retain one of their marquee signings despite mounting speculation.

Head coach Diego Simeone has also leapt to Alvarez’s defence amid scrutiny over a recent dip in goals.

The Argentine forward has endured a quieter spell in front of goal since November, but Simeone insisted his reputation and career achievements speak for themselves.

The manager’s backing signals continued faith in the striker’s importance to the team.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are also tracking emerging talent across Europe, with Inter forward Pio Esposito reportedly on their radar.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, and Inter are said to be working on a contract extension to ward off Premier League interest.
