Barcelona have now made headway in their bid to sign Barcelona to sign Bayern Munich and Poland forward Robert Lewandowski after they reached an agreement in principle with the German Bundesliga champions to bring in the forward to Camp Nou.
The 33-year-old, who was the top scorer in the Bundesliga last season, has always made his intentions of leaving Munich known since the end of last season in search of new challenges.
However, he has one year left on his Bayern Munich contract, while the club has been hesitant in reaching an agreement to let him leave if their valuation of over €50 million isn’t met.
On Sunday, both Barcelona and Bayern Munich posted statements revealing the incoming and exit of the player, respectively. The player himself also posted on his social media handle in respect of the move.
“I would like to thank my teammates, staff members, club management, and everyone who has always supported me and made it possible for us to win trophies for Bayern. I am proud of what we have achieved together. Above all, I would like to thank the fans because it is you who make Bayern the special club that it is. I’m privileged to have spent eight wonderful years with this club and its fans, and it will remain in my heart forever.” Lewandowski posted on his Instagram page.
While the financial details of the deal have not been made public by both sides, Barcelona stated that day move is dependent on a successful medical by the player and contract signing.
Lewandowski is Bayern’s second-highest goalscorer of all time behind Gerd Muller. Lewandowski has 344 goals in 374 games for the club. He joined from rivals Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in 2014, and last season, he scored 50 goals in 46 games.
