Barcelona and Real Madrid resume La Liga title race

Barcelona’s bid to win the Spanish La Liga resumes at the weekend when they travel to Mallorca on Saturday.

The Catalonia giants are currently second behind Real Madrid with 16 points from six games. Meanwhile, Real Madrid, on their part, have a maximum of 18 points from six games.

Los Blancos have won every one of their first six matches in La Liga and all competitions. Carlo Ancelotti’s Los Blancos have gotten inspiration from everywhere, including Karim Benzema.

Vinicius Jr., Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Rodrygo, Modric and Lucas Vazquez have all contributed to Real Madrid winning streak so far.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will host Osasuna on Sunday in a bid to go 24 points within eight matches played.

It is expected that French striker Karim Benzema will play a part in the weekend’s fixture, returning to training on Wednesday with the rest of the group.

The former Lyon striker has scored three goals for Real Madrid in the La Liga this season, while Vinicius Junior has four goals and an assist. Brazilian forward Rodrygo has three goals and two assists to his name.

Meanwhile, Robert Lewandowski tops the goalscorers’ chart with eight goals and two assists since joining Barcelona from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

After Real Madrid’s table-topping 18 points from six games, Barcelona has sixteen while Real Betis and Athletic Club follow in third and fourth respectively.

Similarly, high-flying Villarreal will play Cadiz, Getafe will host Valladolid, while Atletico Madrid will travel to Sevilla.
