Barcelona to face Osasuna in Supercopa Espana after “incredible” title win

Barcelona manager Xavi has tagged his first league title as the club manager as incredible after a 4-2 win over Espanyol in a derby on Sunday secured their first title since the 2018/2019 season.

Xavi’s first title as a manager for Barcelona was the 2023 Supercopa Espana, where they defeated Real Madrid to the title, and he has beaten their arch-rivals to the league with four games to spare.

The Blaugrana’s 4-2 win saw striker Robert Lewandowski get a brace while teenager Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde got their first goals for the club. After the win, Xavi stated that the win would do a lot of good for the club’s image.

“For the image of the club, we wanted to win and end with a good feeling. Winning a league is incredible, but we have to continue. This deserves a great celebration. Today, freedom. We had been criticized for having so many days off, and look….” Xavi said.

Barcelona still has four more games before the end of the season and has also secured a return to the UEFA Champions League after getting knocked out of the group stage this season and also losing to Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League playoffs.

The Camp Nou outfit will welcome Real Sociedad next at home before traveling to Valladolid; they will also play Mallorca and then end the season with a trip to Celta Vigo.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Supecopa semifinal fixture has been confirmed with a clash against Copa Del Rey losing finalists Osasuna. Real Madrid, who are the Copa Del Rey winners, are expected to face Atletico Madrid, who are poised to finish in second or third in La Liga.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will face Manchester City in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semifinal fixture at Etihad on Wednesday.
