Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the 2025–26 season after suffering a thigh injury during La Liga 2025-26 action, his club FC Barcelona confirmed on Thursday. The setback comes at a crucial stage of the campaign, although the young winger is expected to recover in time for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The 18-year-old forward picked up the injury during Barcelona’s narrow 1-0 win over Celta Vigo. Yamal had just successfully converted a penalty in the 39th minute when he suddenly went down, clutching his left leg in visible discomfort. Medical staff quickly attended to him on the pitch before helping him off, raising immediate concerns among fans and teammates.
In an official statement, Barcelona clarified the extent of the injury. “The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle),” the club said. The statement further added, “The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup.”
Despite the blow, Barcelona managed to hold on for the victory against Celta Vigo, maintaining their strong position at the top of the league standings. The Catalan side currently leads the table with 82 points from 32 matches, holding a comfortable nine-point advantage over second-placed Real Madrid.
Yamal’s absence will undoubtedly be felt, given his remarkable contributions this season. The teenager has delivered an impressive tally of 24 goals and 18 assists across all competitions, playing a key role in Barcelona’s push for the La Liga title. His creativity, pace, and composure in front of goal have made him one of the standout performers of the campaign.
While the injury sidelines him for the club’s title run-in, the outlook remains positive for his international future. Spain will be counting on Yamal to regain full fitness ahead of the World Cup, where the national team aims to secure its second global title.
For now, Barcelona must navigate the closing stages of the season without one of their brightest stars, hoping their lead at the top proves enough to secure domestic glory.
