Bayern Munich are navigating a challenging summer transfer window, having secured only two free agents so far.
The Bundesliga giants are struggling to finalize deals for attacking players, with their top target, Florian Wirtz, slipping through their grasp. However, Bayern have reignited their interest in RB Leipzig’s dynamic forward Xavi Simons, holding talks with the Dutch star on Wednesday, according to Sky Sports Germany.
Simons, a former PSG attacking midfielder, is expected to depart RB Leipzig this summer, attracting significant attention from Chelsea.
The London club has made progress, discussing personal terms with Simons and initiating transfer fee negotiations with Leipzig. Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, who knows Simons from his Leipzig tenure, sees the 22-year-old as a key target.
With Jamal Musiala sidelined for multiple seasons, Simons could seamlessly fit into Bayern’s attack, offering versatility to play alongside or behind Harry Kane.
RB Leipzig are reportedly seeking around €70 million for Simons, a fee Bayern must act swiftly to meet as Chelsea’s negotiations gain momentum.
Meanwhile, Bayern’s primary focus remains on Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, despite having one bid rejected for the Colombian forward. Talks continue, but a deal for Simons could become a viable alternative if Bayern’s pursuit of Diaz falters.
Additionally, Bayern have paused their chase for VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade after two rejected bids for the German striker.
The club’s urgency to bolster their attacking options is evident, but their slow progress in the market has raised concerns among fans.
With the transfer window heating up, Bayern face a race against time to secure Simons or Diaz to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Bundesliga campaign.
Their ability to outmaneuver rivals like Chelsea and finalize a deal could define their season, as the Bavarians aim to maintain their dominance in German football.
