Bayern Munich secure Luis Díaz transfer from Liverpool

Bayern Munich has clinched a deal to sign Luis Díaz from Liverpool for €75 million ($88 million), outpacing competitors to secure the 28-year-old Colombian winger.

The transfer, reported on Sunday, marks a significant coup for Bayern as they bolster their attacking options.

Díaz, who agreed to personal terms until 2029 with an option for an additional year, is set to depart Liverpool’s Asia tour to undergo a medical in Munich.

The move comes after Bayern missed out on Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, Bilbao’s Nico Williams, and PSG’s Bradley Barcola. Díaz emerged as the prime target to replace Leroy Sané, who joined Galatasaray as a free agent this summer.

Negotiations with Liverpool were challenging, with the Premier League club initially demanding over €80 million.

However, Díaz’s desire for the move facilitated a compromise, sealing the €75 million deal.

Díaz enjoyed a stellar 2024/25 Premier League season under manager Slot, scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in 36 matches.

This marked a significant improvement from his previous best of eight goals and six assists in 37 games during the 2023/24 campaign. His dynamic performances on the wing made him a coveted asset, and Bayern’s persistence paid off in securing his signature.

The transfer underscores Bayern’s ambition to maintain their dominance in the Bundesliga and compete in the Champions League.

Díaz’s pace, flair, and goal-scoring ability are expected to complement Bayern’s attacking setup, filling the void left by Sané.

For Liverpool, the sale provides substantial funds to reinvest in their squad as they continue their campaign under Slot’s leadership.

As Díaz prepares to embark on his new chapter in Munich, fans eagerly await his impact in the Bundesliga, where he aims to replicate his Premier League success and help Bayern chase silverware.
