Cadiz CF has continued to shock many teams in the Spanish La Liga. They proved that they are in the Spanish competition to stay with another 2-1 victory over Barcelona.
Having won four away games already, the Yellow marines secured their first home win, and they had to do it against a side they last defeated in 1991.
Despite having 82 percent of the possession Cardiz kept their visitor at bay, especially their talisman, Lionel Messi, by restricting him from getting more access close to the goal.
Goals from Alvaro Gimenez and Alvaro Negredo were enough to take their point tally to 18, four above Barcelona and two behi9nd the Champions League places.
Speaking after the victory, the goalie, Jeremias Ledesma, who made five saves from Barca’s 21 shots, said the games’ outcome was a result of hard work. While describing the win as a very important one, he said he is lucky to be a part of the team’s history.
On his part, Negredo, who scored the winner just 44 seconds after coming on, also said it was a very important win because they knew from the onset that they would have to work hard to get such a result against a team of Barca’s caliber.
Cadiz had initially made shockwaves beating the La Liga current champions, Real Madrid, away from home.
The former Sevilla striker noted that Cadiz was very effective with their game plan, and they managed to win the game, which was their main goal.
Negredo further stated that the result is a confidence booster that they can achieve more, adding that the team won’t stop fighting.
He added that the major aim is to continue picking points, and he is glad they are doing it against the big guns.
The coach, Alvaro Cervera, noted that the key to winning the game was to top Barca going in front and their top-class defending.
Cadiz has been known for its counter-attacking master class, which appears to be working because the team looked organized.
