Chelsea moves for Barcelona’s Brazilian striker

Chelsea have reportedly made a surprise move to sign Brazilian striker Vitor Roque, submitting an opening bid worth around £43 million to secure the forward from Palmeiras.

The 21-year-old, once considered a major prospect at FC Barcelona, has revived his form since returning to Brazil, attracting interest from the Premier League club ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

According to reports from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea FC view Roque, nicknamed “Tigrinho”, as a key attacking target.

Club officials are believed to have already formalized their interest with a proposal close to €50 million.

Although his stint in Spain was widely regarded as disappointing, his recent performances in Brazil have reignited belief that he can still succeed at the highest level of European football.

The potential deal could also benefit FC Barcelona financially.

The Catalan club sold Roque to Palmeiras in February 2025 for €25.5 million plus €5 million in add-ons. Importantly, Barcelona inserted a 20 percent sell-on clause into the agreement, meaning they would receive a portion of any future transfer fee.

However, the clause reportedly includes a condition that would reduce Barcelona’s share to 10 percent if Roque were sold for less than €40 million.

With Chelsea’s initial offer believed to be around €50 million, the Spanish club would currently be in line to collect the full 20 percent should the transfer be completed at that value or higher.

Despite the lucrative opportunity, Palmeiras are not rushing to sell. Reports in Brazil suggest the club considers Chelsea’s opening bid below their valuation of the striker.

Roque has become a key figure in their attack, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 13 appearances so far this season.

For Roque, a move to Chelsea FC would represent a chance to rebuild his reputation in Europe after a difficult spell with FC Barcelona.

The Brazilian forward’s return to form in his homeland has revived his career, and a transfer to the Premier League could offer the platform he needs to prove his critics wrong.
