DFB Director Oliver Bierhoff believes that Hansi Flick can be a great national team coach

 

German Football Association (DFB) national team director Oliver Bierhoff feels that the current Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick would be an excellent national team coach as he is someone who brings people together.

Flick is set to step down as Bayern manager at the end of the season after he managed to negotiate with the team management to terminate his contract by two years. Hence the 56-year-old German tactician has a clear pathway to joining the German national team after Joachim Low’s departure. The prospect of Flick replacing Low has already impressed Bierhoff.

He told BILD, “Now the way is free to talk to him (Hansi Flick).

“You don’t have to be a great expert to say that Hansi would make an excellent national coach.

“First of all, I’m happy that this option has been given. Hansi Flick knows the association. He is someone who creates an atmosphere and brings people together.”

Flick was always DFB’s first choice ever since Joachim Low made it clear that he will be stepping down from the role after this summer’s European Championships. So DFB had already made it clear that they will hold talks with Flick for the vacant position.

“It is well known that Hansi Flick is held in high regard by the DFB. We can confirm that, against this background, we will now hold talks with him and those responsible at FC Bayern,” read the statement released by the German football’s main governing body.

The current Bayern tactician has a history with DFB when he was Joachim Low’s assistant with the Germany national team for eight years and witnessed the 2014 World Cup triumph in Brazil. Flick then served as a sporting director post the World Cup triumph.

He then became Niko Kovac’s assistant at Bayern in 2019 and with the Croatian getting sacked the Bayern management decided to give him a shot and it turned out to be a master move for them. Flick went on to guide the Bavarians to an unbelievable treble. His accolades forced the team management to hand him a permanent contract after which he won the DFB Super Cup, UEFA Super Cup and even the FIFA Club World Cup. While he will go out with a huge farewell by winning another Bundesliga title, Flick’s new journey will be to get Die Mannschaft back on track making them a world force yet again.
