English FA confirms Gareth Southgate’s stay as head coach – Football

England manager Gareth Southgate will continue in his capacity as the head coach of the Three Lions till the end of Euro 2024.

This development was confirmed by the English FA when FA Chief Executive Mark Bullingham on Saturday when stated that Southgate and his assistant manager Steve Holland would lead the team to the European Championship in Germany in two years.

“We are delighted to confirm that Gareth Southgate is continuing as England’s manager and will lead our Euro 2024 campaign. Gareth and Steve Holland [assistant manager] have always had our full support, and our planning for the Euros starts now,” said FA chief executive Mark Bullingham.

Gareth Southgate had initially stated that he was unsure about continuing at the helm of affairs after England was knocked out of the quarterfinals of the world cup by France in a 2-1 loss.

The 52-year-old was hired in 2016, and still, his current contract runs till December 2024. Southgate has managed to lead England to the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup I’m 2018 and the final appearance at Euro 2020.

He is the fourth England manager with the most games under his belt, with 81 games, nineteen of which have come from the World Cup and European Championships.

The Three Lions side looks a happy scoring side under Southgate with 174 goals scored and conceded 57, scoring three or more goals in 27 of the 81 games that Southgate has handled.

England’s journey at the World Cup saw them in group B alongside fellow home nation Wales, the United States of America, and Iran.

While England was able to get victories against around with a 6-2 win and a 3-0 victory over Wales, they were unable to beat the United States but managed to win the group where they faced Senegal in the round of 16 with a 3-0 win before facing and losing to France in the quarterfinals on a 2-1 scoreline.
