Everton sacks Rafael Benitez

Everton sacked Rafael Benitez on Sunday after their weekend result that saw the team lose to Norwich City at Carrow Road. The former Liverpool manager replaced Carlo Ancelotti last June but has not enjoyed the support of fans at the Merseyside, while results have not been impressive.

One of them was the 2-1 to Norwich City on Saturday, which left the Toffees without a win in their previous 13 Premier League games while they are just a place above the relegation waters in sixteenth, albeit they have a six-point gap between themselves and the relegation places.

The Toffees have stated that a replacement on a permanent basis will be announced soon. Benitez had a win percentage of 31.8% at the club, and despite coaching Liverpool and Newcastle previously in the Premier League, it becomes his lowest win percentage at an English club.

Meanwhile, the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur meant for Sunday was postponed on the request of the Gunners, who complained of the lack of first-team players due to injuries and the absence of first-team players at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

In other results, Leeds United defeated West Ham United in a pulsating 3-2 victory. Jack Harrison scored his first senior hat-trick for the Leeds who lost to the same opposition last week in the FA Cup. His goals came in the 10th, 37th, and 60th, with Jarred Bowen and Pablo Furnlas pulling one back each at intervals for the Hammers.

Meanwhile, Liverpool scored three to get past Brentford on Sunday, Fabinho opened the scoring for the Reds in the first half, but Oxlade Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino sealed the win in the second half.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are now thirteen points ahead on the Premier League table after tipping Chelsea with a 1-0 win after Kevin De Bruyne’s strike. Liverpool have now pipped Chelsea into second.
