Reports from France say Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz is likely to still play before the season comes to an end.
The Spaniard have been out of action for two months. Ruiz, who is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, has been unavailable since January 20th.
What remains unclear is whether the creative midfielder will be fit to play on Friday for the Week 28 Ligue 1 clash against Toulouse.
Although he is close to returning, Ruiz’s fitness is yet to be confirmed by Luis Enrique. A press conference before the game could shed more light on the situation.
The last time the 29-year-old Spanish international appeared on the pitch was the Champions League group stage match, in which the European champions lost 1-2 to Sporting Lisbon on January 20th.
PSG had stated that the former Napoli midfielder suffered a bruise on his left knee.
As no one anticipated such a long recovery time, the next press conference will give an idea of whether he has finally returned to action after two months.
This will be a huge lift for Les Parisien, who had asked for the postponement of their game against RC Lens, a few days before their first leg tie against Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-final.
It means Enrique will have a fresh leg in the Spaniard in the middle of the pack.
This is also a boost for the Spanish national team as they prepare for the FIFA World Cup, which is about 73 days away in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
If he eventually returns to full match fitness, Ruiz will play an important part for PSG with his creativity and ball usage that could unlock defence and allow them to retain the Champions League trophy, the title they won for the first time last season.
PSG are also just a point above Lens as the race for the Ligue 1 title heats up.
