Fermin Lopez’s first career hat-trick propelled Barcelona to a dominant 6-1 victory over Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday, showcasing their attacking prowess and climbing to third in the standings.
The match began with intensity as Olympiacos’ Daniel Podence tested Barcelona’s defense just 18 seconds in with a shot on target.
However, Lopez quickly shifted the momentum, calmly finishing in the seventh minute after a slick interplay with Lamine Yamal.
He doubled Barcelona’s lead in the 38th minute, skillfully bypassing Panagiotis Retsos and slotting a precise shot into the bottom-left corner, with debutant Dro Fernandez providing the assist.
Olympiacos showed resilience early in the second half, pulling one back in the 53rd minute through Ayoub El Kaabi, who scored from 12 yards after an earlier goal was disallowed for a foul and offside.
Their hopes of a comeback were dashed when Santiago Hezze received a controversial red card for a second booking in the 57th minute, reducing Olympiacos to ten men.
Barcelona seized the opportunity, with Marcus Rashford earning a penalty that Yamal confidently converted to restore the two-goal cushion.
Barcelona then unleashed a relentless offensive onslaught, scoring three goals in a five-minute span. Rashford found the net in the 74th minute, beating goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis at the near post. Lopez completed his hat-trick two minutes later with a thunderous volley, cementing his standout performance.
Rashford capped the rout in the 79th minute with a low, driven shot from distance, leaving Olympiacos shell-shocked.
This emphatic win underscores Barcelona’s attacking depth and clinical finishing, with Lopez emerging as the night’s hero.
The result leaves Olympiacos struggling in 32nd place, tied on points with Kairat Almaty after their draw with Pafos FC. Barcelona’s commanding display signals their intent to compete at the highest level in this season’s Champions League campaign.
