France stages comeback to win 3-2 over Belgium

The Les Blues of France staged a stunning comeback from two goals down to beat a Romelu Lukaku inspired Belgium on Thursday night in Turin.

The win also sends the 2018 FIFA World Cup Champions to the final of the UEFA Nations League on Sunday at the San Siro against Spain.

The Red Devils went into the game in fine form having won their last three games and they looked the brighter of the teams in the first half as they went into the lead through Yannick Carrasco and Romelu Lukaku in the first half.

Atletico Madrid’s Carrasco struck in the 37th minute to give Roberto Martinez’s men the lead while Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku scored from a tight angle three minutes later.

The second half was a much better showing from France after Karim Benzema’s 62nd minute strike and Kylian Mbappe’s penalty seven minutes later drew them level.

Romelu Lukaku thought he had scored the winner with three minutes left to play but after VAR’s decision to overturn the goal for an offside, AC Milan defender Theo Hernandez completed the comeback win in the final minute.

The win is a repeat of the 2018 FIFA World Cup semifinal clash between both sides which France also wins.

Didier Deschamp’s side will now face Spain, who beat European Champions Italy yesterday, in the final of the Nations League on Sunday at the San Siro.

Spain dispatched Italy 2-1 after Ferran Torres’ first half brace and Leonardo Bonnuci’s red card all in an eventful first half.

The first ever final of the competition was played between Portugal, and the Netherlands in 2019 which the Portugese won.

Meanwhile, a third place match involving Belgium and Italy will also be played on Sunday in Turin.
