Haaland scores 5 goals as Man City mail Leipzig – Football

Erling Haaland scored five times as Manchester City beat German club side RB Leipzig 7-0 in the second leg of the round of 16 UEFA Champions League tie on Tuesday to progress to the quarter-finals with an 8-1 aggregate scoreline.

Both sides played a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Leipzig, but the second leg was all Manchester City from start to finish. Norwegian striker Erling Haaland could only score a penalty in Manchester City’s 1-0 win at Palace at the weekend. Still, he got on the scoresheet in the 22nd minute and completed his hat-trick at halftime.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker enjoyed the night even though he was denied the opportunity to potentially score a double hat-trick after he was substituted in the 63rd minute of the game.

“It’s a big night. Firstly, I’m proud to play in this competition; I love it. Five goals! To win 7-0 is amazing. I was so tired after my celebrations. My super strength is scoring goals. I told him [Pep Guardiola] I would love to score a double hat-trick, but what can I do?” Haaland said after the game.

Erling Haaland has now scored 10 goals in six UEFA Champions League games this season.

German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the second half before Haaland added two more goals, while Kevin De Bruyne wrapped up the scoring with a spectacular effort in the 90th minute.

Manchester City’s next fixture will be a homecoming for former skipper Vincent Kompany who will lead Burnley to Etihad Stadium in an FA Cup clash with Manchester City this weekend.

In the other UEFA Champions League game on Tuesday evening, Porto were knocked out after playing a goalless draw with Inter Milan, who moved into the next round thanks to their 1-0 victory in the first leg at San Siro.
