I tried to imitate him but it was impossible – Patrik Schick on Cristiano Ronaldo

Czech Republic’s Patrik Schick wanted to follow the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, like the millions of budding young players, who are trying to make a mark in the game. Schick revealed that he tried to imitate some of Ronaldo’s tricks but found it impossible to copy before finding his own method.

Schick had impressed for his national team in the Euro 2020 and finished as the joint highest goal-scorer of the tournament with Cristiano Ronaldo as both of them scored five goals each. However, the Portuguese won the Golden Boot award as he did it in five matches as compared to Schick’s six games.

Schick, who is 26-years-old, said via A Bola, “I was inspired by Ronaldo at the beginning of my career. I was 19 when I started following him closely and insisted to my family that I wanted the same boots he wore. I watched videos on the internet and tried to imitate the tricks he did with the ball, but it was almost impossible and, with time, I found it better to create my own style.”

Schick currently plays for German club Bayern Leverkusen in the Bundes Liga after making a move from AS Roma in 2020. The forward has scored 40 goals and provided seven assists in 77 games across competitions for Leverkusen.

On the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo is regarded as one of the best players to have ever graced the game and many young players admire him for his skills and work ethic.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo recently revealed that he wants to play for Portugal till the 2024 Euro Championships.

Ronaldo said via Observador, “I still feel motivated, I feel that my ambition is still up there.

“I am in a national team with many young players still, with an extraordinary future and obviously, I want to be part of this World Cup and the European Championship as well – I will take over right away.”
