Leigh Griffiths Could Be Out of Celtic

 

The Scottish forward came to Celtic in 2014 and has since made 233 appearances for the team and scored 115 goals. The player had brilliant seasons with the club. For example, in the 2015-16 season, he was a key piece for Celtic to get its fifth consecutive title and broke the record of 40 goals in all competitions, something that had not happened since the 2003-04 season when club legend Henrik Larsson got that mark.

In December 2018, then-Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers announced that Leigh would be absent from the club for a while to resolve personal problems. The forward went through difficult months, where he dealt with physical and mental issues.

For the 2019-20 season, Griffiths resumed his regular role with the team. In the last game that was played in March before the league was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Griffiths scored a hat-trick against St. Mirren that led Celtic to win the game 5-0.

When everything seemed to indicate that Griffiths had returned to his best form and would lead the Celtic attack in the 2020-21 season, the player showed up to the pre-season preparation out of shape, which caused boss Neil Lennon to leave him out from the training camp in France.

An injury has prevented Griffiths from participating at the start of the current season. The player is also involved in a scandal since it seems that he has broken the club’s lockdown rules.

Neil Lennon wants to make history with The Hoops and win the club’s 10th league in a row, so he is unwilling to tolerate poor performance and bad behavior from any player. The club recently beefed up their forward by signing Patryk Klimala and Albian Ajeti. Odsonne Edouard has become the team’s scoring standard, so Leigh will have to compete with all of them for a spot on the team.

It seems that Leigh’s time in Glasgow has come to an end. Some experts believe that the 30-year-old should go on loan to another club. At least that’s what Pat Bonner, former Celtic goalkeeper, thinks: “Leigh needs to focus, tune in, get fit and out to play somewhere,” Bonner said. “Perhaps he should go out on loan just to get some match time. He’s 30, so he’s got another four or five years as a professional career.”

The future of the player is uncertain, and we will have to wait for the decision of Neil Lennon and the club board about what will happen with Griffiths.
