Bayern Munich’s top scorer Robert Lewandowski has not removed his leg off the pedal yet as he continues his red-hot goalscoring form for the Club. He got on the scoresheet twice in the 4-0 victory over rivals Borussia Dortmund during the weekend.
The talismanic forward has now scored a mouthwatering 23 goals for the Bavarians this season. Dortmund didn’t help matters either; they were woeful in handling the Polish striker as they failed to track his moves in the 18-yard box Making it easy for the striker to cause havoc to the defense.
The Bavarians went into the fixture, having fired their manager Niko Kovac and handing over the affairs of the team to the interim manager Hans Flick who was also in charge of Bayern’s win over Olympiakos during Wednesday’s Champions League match.
Bayern has recently rediscovered their lost form, and during the win over Dortmund, Lewandowski was very sharp; his movements, passes, and finishing was top-notch; he wasn’t the only one though as Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman also put up an excellent performance. Not to mention the young Alphonso Davies who stood up the challenge and eliminated the threats posed by Jadon Sancho, who didn’t end the match due to an injury.
This prompted Lucien Favre to bring on Paco Alcaer and Marco Reus, with both of them returning from injury. Nothing could be done to salvage the situation at hand.
Manuel Neuer had little or nothing to do at his goalposts as chances kept on pouring for Bayern. The match could have ended by a wide margin, but they couldn’t add to the tally.
To make matters worse, former Bayern defender Matt Hummels turned the ball into his net when he tried to avoid a cross from reaching the on-rushing Ivan Perisic.
The win placed Bayern third on the log sharing the same points with RB Leipzig as they head into the international break.
