Liverpool Draw Tottenham in Carabao Cup Third-Round Showdown

Liverpool will host Tottenham in one of the standout fixtures of the Carabao Cup third round, as the Premier League teams competing in Europe enter this season’s competition.

The draw has also produced an all-Premier League meeting between Manchester United and Brighton. Holders Manchester City will begin their campaign at home against Norwich, while Arsenal have been handed an away trip to Ipswich.

Nine Premier League clubs involved in European competition — Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Sunderland — enter the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage.

Aston Villa will travel to face Coventry, while Bournemouth have been drawn at home to Lincoln. Crystal Palace will welcome Middlesbrough and Sunderland will host Hull.

Fleetwood, the only fourth-tier club still in the competition, have been rewarded with a home fixture against Sheffield United.

Two places in the third round are yet to be confirmed. Chelsea host Luton at 19:30 BST on Thursday, with the winners set to face Leeds. Fulham, meanwhile, take on AFC Wimbledon at 20:00 BST, and whoever progresses from that tie will travel to West Ham.

Elsewhere, Newcastle will visit Millwall, while Everton have been drawn at home against Wolves. Leyton Orient face Bradford, Reading take on Brentford and Peterborough will meet Barnsley.

The third-round matches will be spread across two weeks to prevent scheduling clashes with the opening rounds of the Champions League and Europa League. Fixtures will take place during the weeks beginning Monday, 7 September and Monday, 14 September.
