Bernardo Silva will leave Manchester City at the end of the season when his contract expires, bringing an end to a glittering spell at the club that began in 2017.
The 31-year-old midfielder confirmed his decision after months of speculation, marking the conclusion of one of the most successful eras in City’s history.
Since joining from Monaco, Silva has made 451 appearances, scoring 76 goals and providing 77 assists.
Over nearly a decade at the Etihad Stadium, he became one of the most influential players under manager Pep Guardiola, playing a key role in the club’s domestic and European dominance.
Silva’s time at City has been defined by silverware. He won 15 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the historic Treble in the 2022–23 season.
He also featured prominently in the record-breaking 2017–18 “Centurions” campaign and the domestic quadruple triumph the following year, cementing his legacy as one of the club’s modern greats.
Appointed captain after the departure of Kevin De Bruyne, Silva was praised for his leadership and consistency.
While not as prolific in front of goal as some teammates, his versatility, work rate, and tactical intelligence made him indispensable, often acting as Guardiola’s voice on the pitch.
In a farewell message to fans, Silva reflected on his achievements and emotional connection to the club.
He described the honours and memories as a lasting legacy and expressed pride in representing the supporters with passion throughout his time in Manchester.
He also voiced confidence in the team’s future, urging fans to continue backing the next generation.
With City still competing for silverware this season, Silva’s focus now turns to ending his final campaign on a high note.
His departure signals the end of an era for the club, as Guardiola prepares to reshape his squad without one of his most trusted and enduring players.
