Manchester United hands Arsenal their first defeat of the season

Manchester United got their fourth win on the bounce in the Premier League when they defeated table-toppers Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Gunners had won their first five games of the season before Sunday’s game with the Red Devils. Erik Ten Hag’s side was already on the ascendency, having won their last three matches, starting with the 2-1 win over Liverpool.

The Red Devils also beat Southampton and Leicester City before pouncing on Mikel Arteta’s side.

The VAR controversies that have been scattered across the ten games in the Premier League at the weekend, Gabriel Martinelli had a goal disallowed in the 12th minute.

Manchester United scored in the 35th minute of the game when summer signing Antony scored on his debut. The Brazilian was brought in from Dutch side Ajax.

Marcus Rashford then scored a double in the second half to ensure a victory that made Ten Hag happy after the game, understandably because of the Red Devils’ turn of fortune, stating his happiness at the team’s improvement and mentality towards setback in the game.

“We are happy and satisfied with the win, also the performance against a really good team – they played really well. The spirit from this team, they can deal with setbacks, so we did. It is really great and shows your mentality – we have really improved on that.” Ten Hag said.

In the other game played on Sunday afternoon, Brighton thrashed Leicester City 5-2 in a seven-goal thriller.

On Saturday, Chelsea got a 2-1 win over West Ham United in a controversial manner. Elsewhere, Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Aston Villa even though Norwegian striker Erling Haaland scored his 10th goal in six Premier League games.

Liverpool and Everton played out a 0-0 draw in the Merseyside derby, and it was the same scoreline as Newcastle welcomed Crystal Palace. Tottenham were able to defeat Fulham 2-1, and Brentford got the result of the weekend with a 5-2 thrashing of Leeds United.
