Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has showered praise on Marcus Rashford after his team’s 2-0 win against Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday. Both teams failed to find the back of the net in the first half but Rashford broke the deadlock as he continued his good form to score in the 80th minute.
Luke Shaw had a perfect first touch on the ball at the left wing and he then delivered the perfect ball for Rashford, who headed the ball into the back of the net. After five minutes, Garnacho showed his brisk pace to give a decisive 2-0 lead to the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, Rashford scored his 12th goal in 23 matches for Manchester United in the ongoing Premier League and it was his 20th goal across all competitions.
United boss Eric ten Hag said to the BBC: “It was a hectic game, which you expect. At the start we were not calm enough, we made bad decisions on the ball and were not calm enough on the ball, too hectic, and after the subs we were a little calmer, we dictated the game a bit more.”
“He [Rashford] is a great striker, he scores with left, right and head. It is about keeping focus for the whole game, and it is about the finishing and he has the capabilities to do that.”
On the other hand, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was able to keep a clean sheet. The Spaniard was delighted with the team’s performance.
“You saw how much it meant at the end of the game,” United goalkeeper De Gea told Sky Sports.
“The fans, the players. We deserved to win at home but today we did. Great game, we knew if we could keep a clean sheet we would win the game so we did it. We fought until the end like a team.”
With this win, Manchester United moved to the second spot in the standings. Manchester United will next face Barcelona in Europa League on Thursday.
