Marseille add to Lyon’s misery with a dominant performance

Olympique Marseille secured all three points in the French Ligue 1 clash against Olympique Lyon at the Stade Velodrome on Wednesday evening.

The win see the hosts move to the eighth position on the log while Lyon continues their struggle as they languish in the relegation zone.

This defeat follows a 3-2 home loss to Lens followed by the sack of manager, Fabio Grosso after eight games in charge.

Genarro Gattuso’s men produced a dominant performance in this clash between two “big” teams whose position in the ranking is far removed from their declared ambitions, and they deservedly took the maximum points.

Marseille seems to be more organized than the visitors, who have won just one game this season, and they were much less fragile defensively.

The Marseillais maintained their winning runs in the league by stringing together two consecutive successes in Ligue 1 for the first time this season.

The partnership between Vitihna and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seemed to have worked, as they have rarely played at the same time on the pitch since the start of the season.. They have never even started together since the arrival of  Gattuso.

But the former Napoli manager innovated, and he did really well. They were the author of a decisive pass for each other.

The Portuguese scored a goal and recorded an assist, while the Gabonese contributed a goal and two assists in the clash.

Vítinha opened the goal account in the 21st minute when left footed shot from the centre from a pass by Aubameyang.

Amir Murillo made it two five minutes later with a header from the right side of the six-yard box to the bottom right corner after receiving a perfect cross from Aubameyang.

Aubameyang put the game to bed when he right-footed shot from the centre to the bottom right corner after receiving a pass from Vítinha.

Marseille are now, six points off the 4th place.
