Mbappé released a pass for Marcus Thuram, whose shot from outside the box was saved by the goalkeeper Anthony Moris.
Mbappé’s shot went wide after Randal Kolo Muani released a pass from the right side of the pitch.

In the first half, Luxembourg finally had a chance when Danel Sinani released Gerson Rodrigues, whose shot was blocked.
Griezmann released a cross to Randal Kolo Muani, but his header was too high. The striker eventually opened the goal account when he headed in Mbappé’s cross.
Mbappé had two opportunities to double France’s lead; his shot was wide right, and his header missed the target, and the 2018 World Cup winner failed to connect with Jules Koundé’s cross.
