Mohamed Salah Confirms Liverpool Exit, Signals Emotional Farewell to Fans

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the current season, bringing an end to a significant chapter in his career at Anfield. The 33-year-old Egypt international confirmed the decision through a video message shared on his social media platforms, stating, “Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”

Salah’s departure comes despite having signed a new two-year contract with the club in April 2025. Liverpool later clarified that both parties had “reached an agreement” regarding his future, allowing him to leave on a free transfer once the season concludes.

On the pitch, this season has proven challenging for Salah by his usual high standards. He has managed 10 goals in 34 appearances across all competitions, putting him on track for his lowest scoring campaign since joining the club in 2017. The dip in form has coincided with reported tensions behind the scenes.

In December, following a dramatic 3-3 draw against Leeds, Salah spoke candidly about his frustrations. He claimed he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club and revealed that his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had deteriorated. Speculation over a potential January exit intensified during that period, though Salah ultimately returned to the squad after participating in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite the difficulties, Salah’s farewell message struck an emotional tone as he reflected on his years at Liverpool. “I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life,” he said. “Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion. It’s a history. It’s a spirit.”

He also highlighted the personal and collective experiences that shaped his time on Merseyside, including the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent death of teammate Diogo Jota. “We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our life,” Salah added.

Liverpool stated that Salah chose to make the announcement early out of “respect and gratitude” for supporters and to provide transparency about his future.

As it stands, Salah has not disclosed his next destination, leaving fans and observers awaiting news on where one of football’s most prominent forwards will continue his career.
