Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed his side as one of the best he has ever managed and called the 5-0 win over Newcastle a perfect Afternoon.
The Cityzens were given a chance to pull three points clear ahead of Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title. This was after Liverpool was held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham on Saturday.
Spurs got into the lead courtesy of Son before Liverpool equalized through Luiz Diaz; the Reds couldn’t get the much-needed winner.
Meanwhile, Manchester City took full advantage, hitting five past Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, putting the UEFA Champions League disappointment during the week behind them.
The Citizens got the lead with Raheem Sterling heading home in the 19th minute of the game before Aymeric Laporte added a second just before halftime.
Rodri made it three on the hour mark before Phil Foden scored on the 90. However, there was time for Raheem Sterling to get his brace.
The result means with three games left to be played, City top the table with 86 points, three more than Liverpool.
Manchester City faces Wolves, West Ham, and Aston Villa in their final three matches, and the Spaniard insists he doesn’t have any doubt about his team’s ability to go all the way.
“Perfect afternoon. With what this team has done, do you have any doubt? We are five years doing this every three days. If some people doubted us, they don’t know this team. It’s one of the best groups I ever trained in my life.” Guardiola said.
Meanwhile, Liverpool has Aston Villa, Southampton, and Wolves to play in their final three games of the season, while there is an FA Cup Final against Chelsea on the fourteenth.
They play a UEFA Champions League final afterward against Real Madrid on May 28, with their run to win four trophies in a delicate balance.
In other matches, Chelsea was held to a 2-2 draw by Wolves; Arsenal improved their chances of a UEFA Champions League finish with a 2-1 win against Leeds United, while Manchester United was embarrassed 4-0 by Brighton.
