Paul Pogba has weighed in on Marcus Rashford’s imminent loan move to Barcelona, describing it as a major loss for Manchester United.
Pogba praised his former teammate and expressed support for Rashford’s next chapter in Spain, calling the transfer “crazy” but exciting for the 26-year-old.
Rashford is set to join Barcelona on loan with a €30 million option-to-buy clause included in the deal. The move signals a fresh start for the England international after a turbulent period at United, where his relationship with new manager Ruben Amorim soured shortly after the Portuguese took charge.
Rashford was previously loaned to Aston Villa in January 2025 and now appears ready to move on from the club where he came through the ranks.
Pogba, who recently signed with AS Monaco following an 18-month doping ban, said he doesn’t blame Amorim for moving on from players he doesn’t trust.
“Manchester United are losing a great player. Unlucky for them. But it’s great for Barcelona. Amorim has to win. If he doesn’t believe in someone, he has to make changes – that’s just football.” Pogba said.
The French World Cup winner and Rashford shared the pitch 187 times during their time together at Manchester United, forming a strong connection on and off the field.
They helped the club win both the Europa League and the League Cup before Pogba’s eventual departure and Rashford’s recent decline in status at Old Trafford.
For Rashford, this transfer could be a crucial turning point. After enduring a tough season and losing his No. 10 shirt, a move to Barcelona offers him a chance to revive his form and confidence in a new environment.
He is expected to be officially unveiled as a Barcelona player on Tuesday, July 22, pending a successful medical.
Meanwhile, Pogba is preparing for his return to competitive football. The midfielder is building towards AS Monaco’s Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre on August 16, marking the next phase of his own career comeback.
