PSG hold off Man City’s comeback to secure 4-2 Champions League victory

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Manchester City 4-2 in a thrilling Champions League encounter at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, overcoming a second-half fightback to claim an impressive victory.

The French champions dominated the opening period, scoring three goals before the break and leaving City with a difficult task to rescue the game.

Desire Doue opened the scoring for PSG in the 13th minute before Ousmane Dembele doubled their advantage just two minutes later.

Vitinha added a third in the 32nd minute, giving the visitors a commanding 3-0 lead at half-time after repeatedly exposing City’s defensive weaknesses.

Manchester City responded strongly after the interval, with Erling Haaland pulling one back in the 53rd minute to revive comeback hopes.

The Norwegian striker struck again in the 75th minute, completing his brace and reducing the deficit to 4-2 after PSG had restored their three-goal advantage through substitute Maghnes Akliouche in the 62nd minute.

City continued to push for a remarkable recovery, putting PSG under sustained pressure in an entertaining second half.

However, Ferran Torres missed a chance to settle things in the final minutes, missing a penalty after Gianluigi Donnarumma saved his effort late in the match.

The result highlighted the contrasting performances across the two halves, with PSG ruthless before the break and City showing greater intensity after the restart.

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton described the encounter as a game between two elite teams, praising City’s second-half response while acknowledging PSG’s clinical finishing in the opening period.

The victory underlined PSG’s quality as defending European champions, while City were left to reflect on a spirited comeback that ultimately fell short.

The match also came amid scrutiny of Manchester City after a recent finding that the club breached Premier League financial rules, with manager Pep Guardiola watching from the stands during the team’s first home game since the development.
