Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo knee surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the club’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
The French champions have not provided a timeline for his return to action.
The 25-year-old Georgian international sustained the injury after a challenge with Xavi Espart and couldn’t put weight on his right leg.
He was substituted in the 59th minute at the Parc des Princes.
Kvaratskhelia expressed disappointment over the injury in a social media statement, saying he had prepared extensively for the match.
He vowed to work hard during his recovery and return stronger, thanking supporters for their continued encouragement.
The winger has been an important figure for PSG since joining from Napoli in January 2025. He has helped the club secure back-to-back Champions League titles and has made 11 appearances across competitions this season.
PSG have also confirmed that forward Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos will miss several weeks.
Dembele sustained a left thigh injury during the match, while Marquinhos suffered a right thigh injury, adding to the club’s growing injury concerns.
Despite the setbacks, PSG secured an important victory after Barcelona twice came from behind to level the score.
The hosts scored twice in the final stages through Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz to seal the 4-2 win.
The result kept PSG’s perfect start to their Champions League title defense intact, leaving them top of the league-phase standings with nine points from three matches.
However, Kvaratskhelia’s injury represents a significant blow as the club prepares for its upcoming domestic and European fixtures.
The Georgian winger’s absence could force PSG manager Luis Enrique to reconsider his attacking options in the coming weeks.
Kvaratskhelia’s pace, dribbling, and creativity have made him a valuable part of the team’s forward line, and replacing his contribution will be challenging.
PSG will now focus on helping the injured players recover while maintaining their momentum across competitions.
