Real Madrid extends veteran midfielder’s contract

Real Madrid has given a 1-year contract extension to Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, which we will see him stay at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2025. The 38-year-old was with the Croatian national team, which flopped in Euro 2024.

Modric who joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 has won everything available at the club including lifting the Ballon d’Or in 2018, 6 UEFA Champions League titles, and a FIFA World Cup final with the Croatia national team in 2018.

In total, he has won 26 trophies with Real Madrid and has the opportunity to add to that tally as the Los Blancos will play the UEFA Super Cup against UEFA Europa League with winners Atalanta before they start a defense to their La Liga and Champions League titles next season.

Modric has over 500 appearances for Real Madrid and last season he played 46 games while starting just 23 of them. It didn’t stop him from starting all three group games for Croatia at the Euro 2024 although they were eventually knocked out in the group stage after finishing third in their group.

After the expiration of Luka Modric’s contract last season, offers came in for him from Saudi Arabia but instead, he will continue in his 13th season with Real Madrid. He will captain the Real Madrid side next season after signing the contract extension. Meanwhile, the next Real Madrid deal announcement will be Lucas Vasquez’s contract extension.

Real Madrid has already unveiled Kylian Mbappé to the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday after signing a 5-year contract with the Capital club. Mbappé described the move as a dream come true, and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez admitted that the players’ love for the club made the move possible.

“The love that you felt for Real Madrid and your identifying with this club since your childhood made it possible for you to be here and to overcome those obstacles on the way to your dream,” Perez said.
