Real Madrid may be in dire need of signing a proven striker in the summer, with Mariano Diaz leaving at the end of his contract, while emerging reports state that French striker Karim Benzema may be on his way to Asia with Saudi Arabia club Al-Ittihad ready to offer him a €200 million two-year contract.
This has put the Madrid club side in a tight position ahead of next season, especially as Benzema is looking likely to leave rather than renew his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
To cushion this, Real Madrid are in the move to bring relegated Espanyol’s striker Joselu. The deal is expected to be Real Madrid’s first for the summer, especially as Joselu’s contract contains a clause that allows him to leave in the case of a relegation.
Espanyol has already relegated even with a game to spare, becoming the second relegated side to the Segunda after Elche.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid has almost completely closed the signing of Fran Garcia, who is returning to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of his season.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s announcement of Joselu’s signing could come next week after the season’s final match, where they hope to win and finish second behind Barcelona and ahead of Atletico Madrid.
However, even with Joselu’s signing, Real Madrid will need to bring in another striker, with Tottenham forward Harry Kane and Roberto Firmino also in the view for the Los Blancos.
While Firmino joining Real Madrid will have no financial implications, Harry Kane will command a hefty transfer fee. Firmino played his final game for Liverpool last weekend, scoring the opening goal in the 4-4 draw with relegated Southampton.
Harry Kane also did 30 goals for Tottenham in the Premier League this season. Real Madrid finished the season with a Copa Del Rey after losing the UEFA Champions League semifinal to Manchester City and the La Liga to Barcelona.
