Spurs boss Jose Mourinho claims that Pogba should have been sent off in their match against United

Manchester United continue their winning run in the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in a match that was filled with controversies. Spurs broke the deadlock in the 40th minute as Lucas Moura got in behind the United defence and calmly slotted it towards Son Heung-min who made no mistake to nestle it past David De Gea between the sticks.

Jose Mourinho’s men went into the halftime break with the slender lead intact. But Manchester United started the second half with an intensity to win the match and so they did. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer men equaliser through Fred as they carried out an intricate passing build up as the Brazilian midfielder was at the right place to slot it home after Edinson Cavani’s shot was saved by spurs custodian Hugo Lloris.  At the 72nd minute mark, Solskjaer brought in Mason Green for Rashford and the youngster delivered as Cavani took the lead from his exceptional cross heading it past the Frenchman in goal. The third goal was just to add salt to the wound as Greenwood himself scored from a Paul Pogba assist.

However all this action there were moments of controversies as when Cavani scored the goal in the first half which was ruled out after checking VAR and it was evident that Scott McTominay has fouled Son on the build-up so the goal did not stand. Jose Mourinho also added that Pogba should have been sent off as in his challenge with Serge Aurier his arm touched his arm which could have been dangerous for the Ivorian fullback.

“We played against a good team, lots of strong players in midfield. We had great occasions to score a second goal. We hit the woodwork and were dominant in that period,” he told Sky Sports.

“My opinion was a good game. My opinion was we didn’t deserve this result at all. We were unlucky because maybe Pogba should get a red card for an elbow on Serge Aurier.”

When quizzed about United’s goal getting cancelled even after VAR in the first half, Mourinho added, ” I don’t know anything anymore [about VAR]. I watched Fulham versus Wolves. I don’t understand anything anymore. Sometimes you get, sometimes you don’t get. I don’t know how to comment. You don’t celebrate a goal because you are afraid.”

Manchester United have now won four Premier League games in a row and are now 11 points behind league leaders Manchester City after their defeat against Leeds. However, things went south for the Spurs with this defeat as they are now even more out of the top four race as they are now sixth in the league table, six points off fourth-placed West Ham United.
