Thiago Silva becomes the oldest ever Chelsea goalscorer in Premier League classic against Manchester City

Stamford Bridge witnessed a thrilling 4-4 draw against Manchester City on Sunday, filled with great and delightful moments, but none shone brighter than Thiago Silva’s goal and the ensuing celebration, marking a standout highlight of the match.

Early in the game, Silva showcased his prowess with a perfectly placed angled header on Conor Gallagher’s corner, contributing to Chelsea’s impressive comeback from a one-goal deficit. The goal was not only fantastic in execution but also set a new club record, making Silva Chelsea’s oldest-ever goalscorer at the age of 39 (39 years and 51 days, to be precise).

As Chelsea’s social media highlighted, Silva’s achievement surpassed the previous record held by Dick Spence since 1947, as he became the oldest goalscorer in the club’s history. Despite going goalless in the previous season, Silva has now notched up six goals in his Blues career, often delivering crucial contributions at pivotal moments.

The Brazilian defender had already broken Chelsea’s previous oldest Premier League goalscorer record, held by Didier Drogba, by scoring against Spurs in January 2022. Now, Silva stands as the oldest goalscorer in the league this season, a remarkable feat in his illustrious career.

While Silva ranks fourth on the all-time Premier League list, trailing Teddy Sheringham, Dean Windass, and Ryan Giggs, there’s still some ground to cover to claim the top spot. Sheringham holds the record at 40 years and 264 days, providing Silva with a target to aim for in the ongoing season.

In light of this achievement, Chelsea extends heartfelt congratulations to Thiago Silva, acknowledging his pivotal role in the team and expressing gratitude for his consistent contributions, marking a historic and memorable moment in the club’s football legacy.
