Todd Boehly, the new owner of Chelsea, wants the Premier League to incorporate some elements of US sports competitions to make it more attractive. He believes that by doing so, the Premier League can become the most popular league in the world.
Boehly is hoping to make a big impact in the Premier, having already shown he is not playing after sacking Thomas Tuchel and spending millions of dollars to secure the services of Graham Porter.
During his speech at the global networking and leadership forum, the owner of Chelsea and Los Angeles Dodgers proposed that the Premier League adopt the celebration of an all-star game just as sports do in the United States since he considers that would benefit English football teams financially.
Likewise, Boehly assured that in the event that the Premier League adopts said model, it would represent a significant evolution, which he sees as necessary in English football to promote further the growth of what is considered the best league in the world, as well as of the lower divisions.
“I hope the Premier League learns a little bit about American sports and really starts to figure out why there isn’t an all-star game or why we wouldn’t do a tournament with the bottom four teams in the standings. People talk about more money for the pyramid. The MLB made its all-star game this year, and they won 200 million dollars between a Monday and Tuesday. You could do an All-Star Game of the north against the south to finance the pyramid more easily, ”said the owner of Chelsea.
