Two West Ham Players and David Moyes Test Positive for COVID-19

 

Premier League side West Ham United has revealed that two of its players and manager David Moyes have tested positive for coronavirus.

The two players Josh Cullen and Issa Diop as well the manager David Moyes left Tuesday’s home match against Hull City in the Carabao Cup immediately.

The trio will now self-isolate, after getting the information about the test results in preparation for the cup game at the London Stadium, as announced by the club in a statement.

“The manager and both players immediately left the stadium and have returned home,” said a club statement.

The trio have been asymptomatic so far but will be on self-isolation for 10 days and will not be at any training or match until the 27th of September when the hammers take on Wolves.

However, there were fears about the movement of the positive players to the stadium ahead of the games. Still, a source close to the club revealed that the squad travelled in three different coaches do the stadium and social distancing was well adhered to.

This comes after the game between Leyton Orient, and Tottenham Hotspur was called off after players of the Leyton Orient side tested positive for the coronavirus.

Assistant manager Alan Irvine took charge of the game, and West Ham won 5-1 with Sebastian Haller and Yarmolenko scoring a brace each while Robert Snodgrass also scored one.

In other Carabao Cup matches played on Tuesday night Watford lost to Newport County 3-2 while Brentford beat West Bromwich Albion on penalties after they drew 2-2, and Manchester United against Luton Town ended 3-0 in favour of United.

On Wednesday, Leicester City will host Arsenal, Newcastle will face Morecambe, Chelsea and Barnsley, Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and Burnley, Preston and Brighton, Fleetwood and Everton, Stoke and Gillingham.
