We had big problems – Ralf Rangnick feels Manchester United didn’t play well against Wolves

Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick admitted that his team didn’t play well against Wolves as they lost by 1-0 at Old Trafford on Monday. The German admitted that they had big problems particularly in the first half as Wolves dominated the game.

The visitors took a total of six shots on target while the home side could only take two shots on the goal. In fact, Manchester United’s defense was not at their best as David de Gea had to make four crucial saves in the first half. Joao Moutinho found the back of the net for Wolves as they took the lead in the 82nd minute of the game.

Ralf Rangnick said after the game, “We didn’t play well at all individually or collectively. In the first half, we had big problems to keep them away from our goal. In the second half, we changed to a back three and had more control then a spell of 15 minutes where we could have scored.”

Rangnick added that Moutinho was unmarked and they could have defended better as they didn’t apply enough pressure on the opposition.

”The goal we conceded, we had enough players in the box. The cross had been defended by Jones but the goal we conceded was like too many this season. Moutinho could shoot unmarked with no problems, no pressure. We’re very disappointed about the result and parts of our performance.”

The Manchester United gaffer admitted that his team didn’t press well and feels the opposition deserved to win as they were not at their best.

“They’re playing with four or five central midfielders and we had problems to control that part of the pitch. We decided to change our formation and we had more control – they didn’t have as many chances – but we missed our chances and we have to admit they deserved to win.”

“We didn’t press at all. We tried but we were not able to get into those pressing situations.”

Under Rangnick, Manchester United has only won two matches out of the five they have played. The Red Devils will next face Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday.
