McIlroy shines with victory at Pebble Beach

Rory McIlroy captured the title at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, starting his 2025 season in a grand way. This victory at one of golf’s most iconic venues was particularly sweet for McIlroy, as it was his first win at Pebble Beach, a course he described as one of the “cathedrals of golf.”

He finished the tournament with an impressive score of 21-under par, securing a two-shot victory over his friend Shane Lowry, who ended at 19-under, while Lucas Glover and Justin Rose finished tied for third at 18-under.

Entering the final round, McIlroy held a narrow lead but kept his cool throughout the day. He began his round with a steady performance, but it was on the back nine where he truly shone. Notably, he made an eagle on the par-5 14th hole, hitting a towering drive followed by a precise approach shot that set up a 25-foot putt. This moment sealed things for him and extended his lead to four strokes.

McIlroy’s short game was also on display, particularly with crucial birdies that included an important putt on hole 15, which further increased his cushion. His final round score of 66 included five birdies and an eagle. By the time he reached the final hole, McIlroy was able to enjoy a stress-free walk to victory, having effectively sealed the tournament earlier.

The Northern Irish golfer’s win comes after a year filled with near misses in 2024, where he finished second in several high-stakes tournaments, including the U.S. Open and the Irish Open. These experiences seemed to have shaped his mental approach this season. McIlroy mentioned feeling “in a different place mentally,” as he employed breathing exercises to maintain focus during critical moments.

McIlroy’s victory at Pebble Beach not only adds another title to his illustrious career but also sets a positive tone for the rest of the season. With this win, he now has 27 PGA Tour victories under his belt, reaffirming his status as one of the best players on tour.
